I have followed quoted instructions and problem is solved. Codepage is selectable. There is no need to rename subtitles to .sub.

I have also tried UTF-8 coded subtitle. TV showed all characters right.
Srt files can be converted with text editor (ex. notepad, Word, PSPad ...) or converter (ex. Simple Text Encoding Converter ...)
