Playing with binaries from TV on Ubuntu ARM

I recently obtained a Asus Tinker Board and installed Armbian Bionic on it. I thought it might be interesting to see what would happen if I would copy the binaries off the TV and see if they run. I manually copied part of the directory structure off the TV with scp and ran the binaries with commands...

Re: [ROOT] H "Skype refueled" root (FW<=Dec.2014, all T-GFS)

I see multiple scripts, getroot.sh, run.sh and run1.sh. There is also the getroot binary. Are these scripts (and binary) executed each time the TV starts with SamyGO?

Re: [ROOT] H "Skype refueled" root (FW<=Dec.2014, all T-GFS)

I saw the same behaviour when I did not have it connected once, so that would not point to a problematic init script. I will try to see what happens when I disable the things I do not need though. Is there some documentation available on the changes that SamyGO makes to the internal filesystem on th...

Re: [ROOT] H "Skype refueled" root (FW<=Dec.2014, all T-GFS)

I will try that thanks. I would expect these scripts to not be executed when I do not have the USB stick with SamyGO inserted however. Aren't they on the ext4 image that is loop mounted from there?

Re: [ROOT] H "Skype refueled" root (FW<=Dec.2014, all T-GFS)

Disable oscam :) Thanks for the response! I would expect oscam to be disabled by default however. When I look at the init scripts I see this: # ls /mnt/etc/init.d 01_01_catch_crap.init 03_03_nfsmount.init.dis 07_11_ntpclient.init.dis 01_02_telnet.init 03_03_nfsmount.init.remi71 30_09_xserver.init.d...

Re: [ROOT] H "Skype refueled" root (FW<=Dec.2014, all T-GFS)

I did some more experimenting: - even without the USB stick, the TV continues to restart regularly - the restarting seems to occur after about 3-4 minutes, I can get access to the TV through SSH/telnet before that - blocking internet access does not prevent the restarts either Any tips on how to pro...

Re: [ROOT] H "Skype refueled" root (FW<=Dec.2014, all T-GFS)

I'm trying this root method on T-MST14DEUC-2130.0 TV model UE40H5570. I get the screen as in the attached photo. I understood that I could root "from zero" with this method, but maybe that's not the case when Skype was never used? ---- Edit: ---- After the above screen I thought that my TV was not m...

Re: Which root method is recommended?

I've been reading through the posts. It seems that sectroyer strongly recommends avoiding the "Skype replacement" root as it puts things on the small internal storage. I understand that the "Skype refuled" root should still work even though it refers to instructions in a topic which has "[ENDED}" in...

Re: Which root method is recommended?

Thanks, if there are no other differences, I guess the "Skype replacement" root is the best way to go then.

Which root method is recommended?

Hi, I understand that the development of rooting H models is finalized now, but the wiki hasn't been updated yet: https://wiki.samygo.tv/index.php?title=Rooting_H_series_TV There appear to be several methods and it's unclear to me if there is one which is recommended. I always kept the firmware on m...
