any better firmware available for PS50C7700?

hello all,

i have an Samsung PS50C7700 bought from dutch / holland
i live in germany.
my last online firmware update was in 2013, with the 3018 firmware.
it seems to be that samsung no longer support my tv.

now i like to know what can be done.
i often read about that people downgrade their tv, or upgrade them with modified fw.
why did they do that?
is something wrong with samsungs ori fw?

if so, please explain me, and what are the advantages are of the modified fw?s.

and i also like to know why people root their tv.
i know how to root my android and apple devices, but why root an tv?

and please tell me all what can be done to get the most out of my tv.

as i can see, there were nomore new and other samsung apps, in the internet@tv which is poor. i like to have the espn and the eurosport player app

and i saw an 3D movie on a philips 60PFL6008S. this was much better than a 3D movie on my tv.
is there any better firmware out for better 3D movies?

the main advantages for me are the patches i am able to apply (timeshift increase/ noDRM) and through shell access i am more flexible with filesystems and can use scripts like "record_to_nwshare" so i don't have to have a hdd connected to my tv and can use my NAS instead for this.

some of the newer firmwares have some restrictions regarding drm-disable patch or applicable root methods

always remember: do not change a running system

i still haven't had time to recompile openvpn, if we could get this working one could use location restricted apps like bbc-iplayer through a vpn-tunnel that starts directly inside of tv's os
