So, testing from usb didn't work because the patched 2008 firmware I have to flash does not have the /image/uImage file so I simply continued with your guide.

I succesfully did your Step3 and TV rebooteed with 2008. Then, without powering off, I simply copied in the USB 1008 and run the sh +x usb script again. I saw much more error and the operation did take a bit more but finally it rebooted in 1008.

Then I've used the menu to go to firmware update but in the alternative software menu I see "2010/04/21_002010" and not the 2008 I would have expected to find.

What's going on? Should I simply repeat the flashing with 2008 firmware from your Step3 ?

Check if you have ArFix in mediaplayer and of cource check your network support.
Boot from external image means this and you never get boot it from USB you made. Here is missing info in merv07 manual about booting kernel from external source. So i guess you have 2008 firmware on board, identificator file shows 2009 firmware. It does no matter, you can delete Version.0 (or Version.1) file from /mtd_rwarea/ or change its content with ID to 2008 one. Do you have alternative firmware to switch to?

TV says I'm with 1008 (not 2008). So I think I don't have ArFix but I'm not sure how can I check this (I don't know what ArFix is yet  )

TV Menu shows I have an alternative firmware but it shows as option "2010/04/21_002010": are you saying that the "2010/04/21_002010" is instead the patched 2008 with a "fake name" and that I should simply switch to it via menu?

Sorry If I ask multiple times but you told "identificator file shows 2009 firmware" while I don't see 2009 anywhere (2009 was my original firmware and I don't see it anymore anywhere), instead I see 1008 as the current and 2010 as the alternative.

So if you confirm everything sounds "right" I will simply switch to the 2010 and I will end up with the patched 2008 firmware... :?:

ok. flash 2008 over menu again and your 2010 is gone forever> After TV restarts, your alternative firmware will be 1008 and your actual firmware - 2008 with all benefits.

So, I'm not sure if your previous comment was telling me to do the switch from the menu to 2010 or instead to reflash patched 2008 (your step2), so I decided to proceed reflashing patched 2008.

Now my TV is running with 2008 and in menu I see 2010 as alternative (not 1008).

I tried inserting my ASUS Wl-167g WLAN dongle and putting back the model type to B7000 (so to have the network menu) but it doesn't work. So maybe I have to do something else (research the forum? ).

I also tried manually loading the kernel module but I had errors:
Code: Select all
# insmod rt73
insmod: /lib/modules/2.6.18_SELP-ARM: No such file or directory

So, now that I have the patched firmware I don't know if I did everything ok and what's the next step (in order to enable telnet/dlna) :?:

Yes, you re right. Re-flash patched firmware again to have patched in alternative firmware, because you can accidentaly activate it an get in trouble.

To have network you need copy rt73.ko (or rt2870sta.ko) - it depends from USB wifi dongle you have - some dongles use rt73, some rt2570sta and some rt2870sta.ko - you need only one driver.

Copy driver to /mtd_rwarea/modules and load it from there eg:
Code: Select all
insmod /mtd_rwarea/modules/rt73.ko

Search for info:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=956#p8001
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=577

and off course use search function:
use not internal search, but google widget on http://www.samygo.tv

All required modules are in samygo-all-extensions.

I tried flashing multiple times 1008 and 2008patched from your step3 but it seems I always replace the "main firmware" and that the alternative firmware still is 2010.

I can live with 2008 and 2010 as the alternative but I wanted to "report" this because following your guide this was not expected so I don't know if I misunderstood the guide or maybe on some different TV the guide works a bit differently.

If I understand how things works If my TV decides to use the alternative firmware for some reason then I will have to run your full guide from step1 (instead if I was able to replace the alternative firmware too then I could simply flash a new firmware: so just the step3). Right?

Do not know why do you have 2010 in alternative fw, but if you flashed 2008 from menu twice (normal fw upgrade procedure, not step 3), you should`n have 2010 in menu.
It does not matter, you can leave it as is, but remember - if you activate it, you need do whole job from beginning :)

:!: :!: You mean I should have flashed from MENU!!!! I didn't get this!

So I have to simply repeat your step2 (real 2010 in usb, upgrade from menu, cancel, replace usb content with 2008 patched, firmware upgrade from menu)!

In my previous post I alware attempted flashing using the "sh +x usb" method described in step3 (serial console) and not an upgrade from tv menu: i guess this explain my misunderstanding!

Edit: thank you very much for your help!! I'm slowly learning how it works! :D

Yes, to have your current fw as alternative you have to flash from menu it again. After this you have both - current and alternative 2008 patched. ;)
Step2 is needed just for restore u-boot.
