Hi there.
I made some tests on my D6000 panel.
With HDMI connection, pictures moved to TV by digital way. With VGA, it's analog connection. But It's clearly seen that, VGA picture quality far more superior than HDMI source. Even a blind can understand the difference.
On FullHD resolution, 1920x1080, VGA (PC) connection, pictures are good, it's like my own LCD PC monitor. Everything is normal.
But when I switch to HDMI connection, I cannot believe the picture quality. It's really *really* awful. I tried every settings but there is no way to have same quality with VGA one. I am not in Game Mode, also I tried various settings but the images has defect every time...
But If you choose one step smaller resolution, 1600x1200, there is no difference between VGA and HDMI picture quality. They are same!
With small math 1920x1080 = 2073600 pixels and 1600x1200=1920000 pixels.
Does %8 pixel results this issue? I don't believe that if this picture quality reduction due %8 more pixel.
Does it same on you? I wonder if it's same on your D series TV? Please compare FULL HD, 1920x1080 picture quality at HDMI and VGA inputs..
I have doubts if D7000 and/or D8000 are free from this issue. Like low resolution 3D problem at D6 series.
Awful Picture Quality on FULL HD HDMI connection vs. VGA
Re: Awful Picture Quality on FULL HD HDMI connection vs. VGA
I have no idea if it's exactly the same issue on D6XXX TV models, but: on my old LE37B650, degraded image quality for HDMI inputs is very clearly visible.Jimmbean wrote: Is the difference easy to see? I aint got the possibility to check the Quality via DSUB so I'm unable to compare.
Especially, thin (1 pixel wide) color vertical lines are affected by this problem. To confirm, you can use "Nokia monitor test"
(http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia ... Test.shtml), and run "Convergence" tests (1st button bottom-left).
Horizontal/vertical lines hue and luminosity should be more or less identical. But it's not.. last test in "Convergence" is most revealing: vertical red and green stripes color/brightness is all wrong, and blue vertical stripes are almost invisible.
Game mode == "On" actually helps (but only a little bit). Various lower resolutions are affected as well (but not to the same degree). Especially, 1280x720 is not-so-good-looking.
Note: In B650, there is exactly one full-HD HDMI input/mode which is not affected by this problem . Picture quality is pretty much flawless for (and only for):
- 1920x1080@60Hz (it doesn't work properly for 24Hz/50Hz refresh rates - personally, that's my biggest complaint),
- HDMI3/DVI input being used,
- HDMI3 source name set to "PC" or "DVI PC".

No, believe it's different problem than that. In both VGA and HDMI, I got 1:1 pixel mapping...
I needed to send shots about problem but I cannot find my magnifier this days. Where is it? Anyone knows?
