T-GAS*/T-GAP* detailed hardware specs, differences etc.

Post by sbav1 »

For a good start, we have D8000 service manual: http://www.mediafire.com/?0zbju2pwvmgbi7n .

Looks like 3D/FRC chip "Napoli" in D8000 (Genoa-P/SDP1002 SoC based models) is located on T-con board (like in B650's ; in T-VAL*/C650/C750 there were additional 3D and/or FRC chips on the mainboard for that). Analog front end/video processor: Arsenal-WW chip (SDP94): just like in C650/C750 C-Series.

Encoder chip on the D8000 mainboard: apparently it's Nexell NXP2120 (http://nexell.co.kr/kor/pro/pro01.html). Not very impressive specs (MPEG4 SP 720x480@30fps max); 1920x1080 real-time encoding is probably out of the question.. I guess Mobilygen/Maxim MG3500 was too pricey ;). However, there are two Nexell encoder microcodes in /DualTV/ (2nd one: "SPICA DTV Encoder" - perhaps it's a little better one?).

CPLD chip (Altera Max II, AFAIRC): I wonder what is it used for, exactly? It's reprogrammable..

D6XXX models (Genoa-S/SDP1001 based models) - two variants:
- Genoa-S alone (built-in "poor man's" 3D/FRC in main SoC); no additional chips for 3D/FRC ( and no external DRAMs on T-con board == probably just plain/dumb timing controller)
- Genoa-S + Samsung "Parma" chip; I wonder which actual D-series models are using this configuration (if any ?).

WTF?! D6XXX CPU is (presumably) ARM Cortex-A8@1.2GHz, while D7000/D8000 CPU is Cortex-A8@800Mhz (single core)?
Also, kernel-mapped DRAM is substantially smaller in D7/8000 series.. It's really weird :?

Thanks for the service manual sbav1.

I notice that the manual shows how to enable IR support for 2010 glasses. Can't see where they might have hidden the IR transmitter on my D8000 though... :?:

Edit: Guess it must be in the same window as the power light, along with the IR Rx.

Look at my bootloaders "hi5":

Code: Select all

GenoaS with Parma, GenoaS only
Seems, here is Parma chip.

To people who understand:
Are the gas6*,gas* and gap* mainboards cross-compatible?
From the provided spec?
I mean is here possible to take mainboard from D7 and add to D6? I havent found D6000 datasheets anywhere to compare...

Hmm...
The board itself will work for sure... :D Problem is if T-con and panel will work with D7 board ...timming,resolution,framerate...
Better check supported types of panels in SM first for D6 and D7 series , and compare specs...
If we digg enaugh maybe find the noHD 3D issue on D6...

I`m total noob and can`t decide by self. need help :)

I have chance to "upgrade" my gas6 board with any other supported main unit board.

Or maybe not.. IMO that only suggests that both (Genoa-S with Parma / Genoa-S only) hardware configurations are supported by T-GAS* firmware[s]. Doesn't mean there is Parma 3D chip in your particular TV model. I'm not quite sure what Parma 3D chip is exactly (looks like it's involved in 2D -> 3D conversion in hardware; is it doing something else or just that?).
Are the gas6*,gas* and gap* mainboards cross-compatible?
I guess not (at least, not as a general rule).

In comparison, B550 -> B650/B750 mainboard switch was very simple (the same 50/60Hz video format on LVDS bus for all 3 models; virtually identical mainboard PCB layout).
Sadly, that's not the case for D6000 -> D[78]000. I expect many more troubles (for a start: power board connector in D8000 is 28pin vs 20pin in D6XXX - ?).
We don't know:
- what signals we can expect on LVDS bus in D6000 and D7000/D8000.. I guess video format should be 100/120Hz for D6XXX models (they use 100/120Hz panels; FRC & 3D is done by Genoa-S on the mainboard - only one chip on the T-Con, no DRAM). D7000/D8000: they use 200/240Hz panels, and FRC & 3D is done on T-Con. But what exact video format[s] are transmitted on LVDS bus in D7000/D8000? 48/50/60Hz? 96/100/120? No idea..
- will D7000/D8000 T-GAP* firmware operate properly while unable to detect FRC/3D Napoli chip on T-Con?
- is Genoa-P even capable of doing on-board FRC & 3D processing? Not very likely, IMO. If yes: 1) is there support for such unusual combination in T-GAP* firmwares? 2) will 3D be actually any better than Genoa-S FUBAR implementation?

OK... more questions than answers... :-)

Then how about D6500 mainboard (gas*) to D6000 barebone (Gas6*) ?

That's more likely :). I'm not sure it's worth a trouble.. AFAIRC:
- D6500 (and up) have built-in wifi (that's one possible problem while switching mainboards, probably not very big one).
- 2D -> 3D conversion: basically useless feature, IMO.
AFAIK we don't have any service manuals for D6XXX ("training manual" only , not very detailed).

Not needed.

I even dont like to watch 3D. IMO not healthy thing. Become headaches after 15min of watching...

Thanks guys for info. I`ll take the D6000 board and install gasdeuc firmware :D
