WARNING!!!! DON'T EXPECT HACK TO BE WORKING CORRECTLY IF YOU EVER UNPLUG ROOTING USB :)!!!!!!

Preliminaries:
  • This rooting method requires fat formatted usb disk.
  • This requires Skype, but you won't be able to use it.
  • It seems that having both a recording device AND the rooting USB attached helps a lot.
sectroyer wrote:Shut down TV. Unplug usb with rooting data. Plug one of your Free usb disk. Start TV and once it loads hit REC :) . It will ask if it can format the disk. Format and record something then shutdown tv, attach SECOND usb (the one with rooting data), start TV :)
  • Menu->System->General->Quickly Power OFF Samsung - this option must be OFF
  • Menu->System->General->Samsung Instant ON - this option must be OFF
(if these options are not existing on your TV, simply don't set them!)
In case you're asked to "attach" some files, paste them directly to forum if they're of reasonable size, please don't make the job more difficult by posting 1 byte file on dropbox for example.

For bigger stuff, advice is to post log(s) to http://ctrlv.it and use any web image hosting of your choice to paste screenshots.
Please respect that, we had already ran out of quota due to huge profusion of useless crap uploaded directly to forum.

If rooting successful, write FULL TV model and FULL firmware name/version. Thanks :)

@ALL who already rooted - questions not related to rooting procedure please write in H series support subforum.

Here are the steps to make it work:

For H SERIES!!!! do this:
  1. Install Skype on TV
  2. Start Skype, Log in and set it to auto start/login when TV powers on
  3. Reboot TV and check if Skype starts
  4. Unpack attached SamyGO.zip to FAT USB
  5. Unpack attached InstallSamyGO-H.zip to FAT USB
  6. Download samy.zip from here (Image 25/06/2015)
  7. Unpack samyext4.img and copy to SamyGO directory on FAT USB

For MST, firmwares starting with T-MST14, do this:
    1. Now you should have FAT USB with two folders: InstallSamyGO-H and SamyGO
    2. Connect USB to TV
    3. Launch InstallSamyGO-H from SmartHub (if it doesn't appear reboot TV). Sometimes it is necessary to connect USB WHILE TV IS OFF!!!
    4. The widget will automatically finish installation (No need to push any buttons).
    5. When it finishes it will ask to reboot TV.
    6. Reboot TV and wait 1-2 minutes.
    7. TV will reboot itself or crash (it won't respond to remote control). It is EXPECTED for TV to crash and/or reboot multiple times :)
    8. If your TV reboots do nothing but if it crashes unplug the power cable. DO NOT UNPLUG USB!!!
    9. Repeat previous step till TV becomes stable once again (stops crashing and/or rebooting).
    10. Now SamyGO is started and telnet/ftp/etc. should work.
      If root succeed, set:
    11. Menu->System->General->Samsung Instant ON -OFF
    For NON-MST do this:
Should work for T-GFS and some old T-GFP firmwares.
    1. Install SamyGO widget as described in MST section
    2. Do not power off TV
Check if you have changed as described:
Menu->System->General->Quickly Power OFF Samsung - this option must be OFF
Menu->System->General->Samsung Instant ON -this option must be ON
    3. Set scheduled power on (use most close schedule as possible)
    4. power off TV and wait for TV power on
    5. Check telnet on 23 port after you get picture
    6. Check ssh on 22 port after you get picture (user: root, password: SamyGO)
      If root succeed, set:
    7. Menu->System->General->Samsung Instant ON - OFF

Merry Christmas everybody.

Now Sectroyer has released his root for H-series, I will follow up with an updated version of the PVRDecoder
also supporting the H-series. It will take me a couple of days to get ready :-)

Zoe, could you construct the correctly placed topic as placeholder ? :-)
(If a simple update of old PVRDecoder is too "public" ?)

In my opinion an update to public thread would be fine, so that current non-donor E/F users could enjoy a new version as well. And H users already have a good reason to go through Extras to be able to use it :)

Sounds totally resonable to me :-)

Hi sectroyer, thank you for your great job! I will try it asap :P
Just a question: i can see in your advise that we never have to unplug the rooting usb. In the public old rooting method for f series, that use a Skype bug to work (like your root), you was able to unplug the usb after the root process and you was unable to use Skype; so this is not possible with this new procedure?
I will be unable to use Skype?
Thanks you one more time for your work! :P

I think if it is written in red, it must be inside all the time.

Yes this was a bug in old f rooting method. It's fixed both in "latest" rooting method for F and in this H rooting method :)

Yeah no Skype for you :) Besides who uses Skype on TV :P
