Decoding Samsung panel types

Hello all,

I have been trying to decode the panel type information that appears in the service menu. So far I have decoded most of the fields but am stuck on the second last letter in the sequence.

Here is what I know so far:-

EXAMPLE from a JU7000 TV.

Option : 40A1UU7VJ,....,....,NONE (from the Service Menu)

40 = Size in inches
A = vendor / Manufacturer / where:-

A = Samsung Display
D = CMO (Chimei Innolux / Chilin /)
L = AUO (AU Optronics)
R = AUO (AU Optronics)
I = CPT (Chunghwa Picture Tube)
P = CMI (Chimei Innolux)
H = Sharp Display
S = Sharp / (Samsung China)
B = Beijing Optoelectronics

1 = Panel frequency where:-

6 = 50 (60Hz)
1 = 100 (120Hz)
2 = 200 (240Hz)

U = Panel Finish where:-

U = Ultraclear
A = Antiglare

U = Panel resolution where:-

U = UHD
F = Full HD
H = HD

Not sure what the number represents but on the TV's I've seen this appears to be:-

9 for 9 series
8 for 8 series
7 for 7 series
0 for 6 series.

Not sure what the next letter represents but see the table of models I have looked at at the end

V = Panel Type where:-

Q =
T =
V =
W =
X =
Y =

J = Samsung Model Year Where:-

J = 2015
K = 2016

Any help on the panel type identifier would be appreciated.

TV service menu's I've seen so far

Well it looks like you already have more info than us :)
However, after having a quick look, I'm not sure it's systematically built on the same scheme (some types have a letter less, plasmas are specific...)
I'd say one of the last letters is simply year series (J=2015 for you, the one found in model name).

Here you will find many factory logs that might help your research.

Thanks @zoelechat

I checked loads of service screens and you are right about the last letter being the Samsung model year. I've updated my original post with extra info.

I am still stuck on the second last letter. I've posted the models I've seen, but the same letters are used on different models so I am struggling with this one.

Thanks

John.

Hi guys.

Do you think I can change my panel type in hidden menu to activate extra options ?
For instance I need smart universal remote setup menu on my JU6800 ...
So if change that to some type like JU7500 I should get that option ?

Hi semoG,

Do NOT change your panel type, at best you'll ruin your picture, at worst you'll brick your TV.

You were asking about changing model number in another thread - I don't think you can do that from the service menu.

Thanks John,

So changing panel type will not give me any other functions on the TV right?

Right!

Samsung use panels from several different manufacturers (some better than others). Because the firmware is the same for a whole range of Samsung TV models it contains preset data for each size, manufacturer and model. Choosing a panel type different to what is fitted could be a disaster. :cry:
