BD Firmware Downgrade (SamyGO Proof of Concept)

Post by arris69 »

Precheck:
make sure in bd's settings menu OTN is enabled (screenshots anywhere????)
if you once played around in service menu, try to remember you changed some settings to develop(er|ing), if yes set it back to operating, if you never changed it in service menu there is no reason to change now anything!!!!!.
  1. set dns (depends on you network setup on tv or/and on your router) to:
    Image
  2. switch device off and on again (better make a cold start, take from power for some seconds)
  3. check from bd's menu for firmware update via internet
  4. install firmware if it detects one (firmware for some devices are not patched, it's original samsung firm with just changed versions number to xx90)
    • if you get an error at ~90% of install process turn tv off for ~3min and try again
  5. if no firmware are shown -> report it (not to samsung but here in forum :D )
  6. set your dns back to normal operational (if you don't do this your device will be banned after 2 days on server due senseless filling up of logfiles)
  7. turn device off and on again
  8. and don't forget to disable further firmware updates!!! (samsung won't make any technical improvements in new firmwares)
if you like you can say "thank you" here too :-)

Prepared Firmwares on Server:

Hello

I have a couple of questions:
*Any chance we could get a firmware for BD-D5500? Firmware for this player is B-BRCMBSP
*Does this version on your server contain cinavia restriction?

Thanks!!

but just if someone successful tested B-BRCM65BSP

its original samsung firmware so you have to know what restrictions/benefits it has

thank you very much.
My Samsung D6500 was previously upgraded to ver. 1025 via automatic network update, and it had cinavia;

after weeks of searching on the internet, this post is by far the most valuable one and it actually solved my problem.

now my firware was "downgraded" successfully, and I've encountered the 90% error that it kept retrying the download from 0%, and I cold started the machine and tried again; fortunately, it worked for me eventually.

again, thank you very much!!!

Thank-you for offering this.

Out of curiosity I set my BD-D5100 to the DNS settings you provide 46.4.199.222. I turned off the BD-D5100 and turned it back on, but the player says it is "not connected to the internet", although it sees the LAN. Hope this helps in some way.

Hi,

yesterday I tried downgrade for BD HT-D5550 (current version 1013.1).
It was downloading your firmware and around 80% I get error 800 (resources error).
Then I tried turn off/on my device, also I tried cold start, but still the same error.

I think, that I get this error, becouse firmware for my device was not ready...

you device not get "internet connection" just connection to update server. but be warned, your device got 5 files from last usb update, in the version 1015 there are just 4 files so im absolute not sure that your device will boot after "downgrade" or not
Thank you for the warning. I turned off the player, unplugged it, waited a minute and plugged it back in. Still no download attempt, but perhaps I am doing something wrong.

Thanks again, mrlumpy
