FTP Enabler app.

Postby ganumor » Tue Feb 16, 2010 7:00 pm

Is it possible someone could create an FTP Enabler app which runs off the USB stick like the SamyGO (non permanent) Telnet Enabler. To enable copying files to and deleting files from the USB stick in the TV from a networked PC.

This would get round the compatibility/stability problems when streaming video from a PC. Also the power saving effect of not needing your PC on whilst watching the file would probably pay for a 32GB USB stick after about 6 months.

You could mount nfs shares without the need of any modification via telnet and then copy files to usb stick.
OR
use already existing SamyGO bftpd http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/samyg ... 74&start=0 make a little shell script and execute it when needed via new SamyGo Control Center (working title) http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/samyg ... ?f=5&t=410

Thanks very much for the info, although most of this is over my head at the moment

Has anyone used the nfs shares method to copy files to the USB stick in the TV from a networked PC and is it reasonably fast to transfer say 1GB files.

i have done that, you can download your ftp-server here http://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/samyg ... =410#p3250 (start app, push green buttom, highlight ftpserver and push right buttom to start)
But copy to usb stick is slow with ftp but also with nfs...i don't know why it's so slow, must be the tv.. usb hdd is fast,
have fun

Thank you very much for going to the trouble to do this. Just a few questions:

I assume I extract the SGCCv0.1a folder to the usb stick and use in the same way as the non-permanent avrfix method.

Is it compatible with the LE40B651T3W TV / T-CHL7DEUC-2005.0 firmware.

Does the ftp server need a user name or password when I ftp from my pc.

Yes, extract the folder and load it via content library

Yes, should be compatible with almost any tv (not older A-series, because it uses sh4 cpu)

login with username: root , no password (same as telnet login)

Just tried it out - works brilliant !! Great job. :P

Only thing is it was very slow. Took 44 secs to transfer a 5MB mpg file onto the TV USB using my 100Mbits/sec network connection (I used the 'bin' command). So at this rate it will take about 2-1/2 hrs to transfer a 1GB mpg file. Needs to be speeded up somehow.

Do you using flash disk or HDD? And which port do you use? HDD port (ubs 2.0) or other one?
I test it before. You can copy file to /mtd_ram directory at full speed. But writing to USB device directly make you waits long.
Might be we needed to use this USB's with write buffers or acceleration settling like write-through... I think this could requrie to recompile USB device kernel modules...
What you thing on them?

Im using a 16 GB USB2 Stick in the USB 2 port (not in the HDD USB port 1). I'll try the HDD USB port 1 tomorrow and see if it is any faster.

I am strongly recommended before clarification ue32b700 issue (http://forum.samygo.tv/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=410#p3269) start Control Center for ftp transferring ONLY FROM USB STICK( not from TV memory) and don't upload anything directly into Content Library !!!
