Disable OTN

Post by JSeries »

The J Series does NOT seem to have an explicit "OTN Support: On/Off" in the service menu (INFO+MENU+MUTE+POWER).
Instead, "Service-Menu->Control->SubOption->OPTION_SWU" offers the following (default) settings:
OTN Server Type: operating
OTN Test Server: OFF
SWU Reset
SWU Duration: OFF
SWU Fail Test: 0
SWU Checksum: 0
SWU Hash Value: 00000111

What exact settings need to be changed to turn off OTN on J Series?

Otherwise, OTN will immediately upgrade a J6250 model from "1203" factory version to "1212" (T-HKMFDEUC-1212.6). Firmware file: http://az43064.vo.msecnd.net/firmware/t ... Item_1.dat .

Yes :) You should contact samsung and ask why it installs unwanted firmware :)
I do NOT support "latest fw" at ALL. If you have one you should block updates on router and wait for it to STOP being "latest":)
If you want me to help you please paste FULL log(s) to "spoiler"/"code" bbcodes or provide link(s) to pasted file(s) on https://pastebin.com Otherwise "NO HELP"!!!
If you want root DISABLE internet access to your device!!!!
DO NOT EVER INSTALL FIRMWARE UPGRADE !!!!

Looking further, "Service Menu"->Option->"MRT Option" has a "OTN Support" option, but it's GREYED OUT and defaults to ON.

BTW, there seem to be some interesting settings (e.g. "Provider Setup Support") in that "MRT Option" tree. Does anyone have some details on them?

Can you try blocking www.samsungotn.net in your router and see if it still wants to upgrade?

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+block+website+in+router

OTN Server Type: operating uses www.samsungotn.net
OTN Server Type: development uses test.samsungotn.net

so you may want to block both

What's the difference between "operating" and "development"?

not only block www. and test.
You must block everything from samsungotn.net and msecnd.net

Code: Select all

samsungotn.net
msecnd.net

UE46ES6300 - T-MST10PDEUC_2007.0 SamyGO (stabel) and Oscam SVN r11399 Support.... :D
UE55J5550SU - T-HKMFDEUC_1480.4 - SamyGO and Oscam SVN r11399 Support....

Hm, I'd be cautious about blocking the entire msecnd.net domain. It's part of the Microsoft Azure platform and used for many, many other services as well - which would no longer work in such a case.

Why do you thing that we should block that domain as well? Wouldn't the Azure service only be used to provide the firmware bits?

Maybe the ips would be enough ? Somebody would need to sniff where the Packages come from

Should be enough to block the First 3 IPs which would block the otn Communication
