I`m not sure if everything went ok with the root of my H6500 with firmware 2606.2. You can find attached a picture of the rooting process and make your comments.

Anyway I think it is OK, because I can reach the TV via Telnet on port 23 and via FTP on port 21.
Should the rooting USB stay always in the TV?

Yeah rooting should work after reboot. If it worked once it should work second time. Just reboot tv and check (remember to wait at least 5 minutes)
