Setup your ExLink configuration. you might have already debug mode enabled but forgotten later...
You needed to close that gate quickly after opening TV. That will enable debug mode.
Just needed to connect those terminals with wire, coin, bolt, or anything conductor. For avoid shot circuit, you might want to use duct tape and paper that will cover other areas...

Nice video 
What you doing wrong in my opinion -
1. Power OFF TV (from electricity)
2. Make short and do not release it
3. Power ON TV
4. Watch what is going on terminal.
If nothing happends
5. Release short connection
6. Watch what is going on terminal.

I do not know if secure terminal is good (you need use serial connection from com port, not telnet to IP), Check connection settings you use. And you can try putty as terminal...

Make sure to select option "handshaking" to none in your terminal program, because tv uses RXD and TXD only, so none of control signals are available.
