Don't use RST : connect only TX-1 to RX-2, RX-1 to TX-2, and GND to GND

To check that the connection is ok on your PC side, you can also shortcut RX and TX and check that you have an echo when you type something (with putty, hyperterminal or equivalent)

Thank you for that information. Is it possible that it needs to be really a FTDI chip on the adapter I have is an Silicon Chip :(

Sil CP2102*

I think I'll order the FTDI cable and try again.

Yes, it is possible; it depends on which driver is included in the kernel.

You can use one of these cable to get the serial debug console on your pc (debug console<->USB on your PC). See Wiki to help locating the signals.
When you connect the other cable on your unit (USB on your unit<->unconnected), you should have a message ("PTP device connected" or something similar, I don't remember exactly)
If the driver is not in the kernel, you won't have this message.

Ok, I dont get any message like that. So then the chip is probably the problem. I ordered two FTDI chipped cables from the UK, 3-7 days till they are here. Will report back when I got them.

Thanks for helping!

Hi there,

finally got the cables but still no success... rx & tx are crossed and GND is connected.. Still wont open the Factory Setting Menu... Don't know what else to do, I'm a little afraid to open the BDP to do the Serial Consol connection dont want to brake anything..

I tried FaNet Software and the command line.. Command line says files copy successfully but nothing happens.. But even when I disconnect or turn off the BDP it says tells me files transfer complete... So it seems to not be connected?

Anyone any idea for me what else I could try? I got this cabel http://avitresearch.co.uk/usb2ttl_ftdi.htm hope it's ok to post the link if not I'm sorry! I installed the latest driver VCP 2.08.24.

If you need anything else let me know.

Seems that your cables are OK. Your FW doesn't like to show the service menu. What is your FW version?

What I would do :
1- Try your pair of cable with 2 pc and putty on both of them : what you enter on the first one will be displayed on the second one. This way, you'll be sure that your RX/TX/GND connection in the middle is ok.
2- Try to send the 'info' code (Key codes) (if FaNet is working on your unit, and your cable is ok, this code has to work)
I you still can't find what's going wrong, the only solution to enter the setup menu will be with the debug console (see here)...

Sorry for the delay, was busy last couple days. I'll try what u said. Gotta check for the Firmware Version never checked it but i didn't updated it since I bought it. I'll report back.

EDIT 12:55 am

Connection between both systems with putty work fine.. FaNet sends the commands..

Back on BDP still no Factory Setup Menu Appears :(,

Firmware is 001052 newest would be 001053.2

Serial Console only way or any other Ideas?

Thanks a lot for helping.
