I read somewhere you could install some other DLNA servers on it, maybe that would be a solution for that - I have not tried this, so can not tell if it helps, but I have experimented a bit with DLNA servers for windows (my PC), as the allshare does not really do the thing for me. Good results I had with serviio, but there are also others, I am sure most of them can be installed directly to your NAS. Maybe other DLNA software fixes it for you (my experiences - every DLNA server is different, there is no same DLNA :) )

If you do some experimenting let me know the results.. as I say, I am more worried about the speed of this NAS, if he can handle e.g. big files such as 1080p .mkv's, which have 12GB.. It has to be decoded and then sent, so this is why I think would be VERY convinient to just let it send to the TV as it is and let the TV do the thing as I know it does it without any problems at all (same goes with subtitles problems etc.)

Would be very nice to hear your results!

Success!

Hi,

Samsung TVs dn't work with any dlna server. I tried mediatomb, xbmc, minidlna, serviio. Only serviio seems to work best. Minidlna seems to work partially. The others don't work or need some tweaking. Not all NASes have a good supported media server. Serviio can't be installed on all NASes, but all NASes have samba.

Hope they find a way to give access to samba shares.

minidlna works fine on ES 5507 + netgear stora (Debian)!

Yeah, I use minidlna on Debian too (custom machine, not a NAS), and it worked fine for me until now.

minidlna also works 'out of the box' for me with a UA40ES6600.

Running on Linux Mint 13 at the moment. Hoping to get something working with a Raspberry Pi by next year.

One thing I am always wondering is if there is a way to get a better featured DLNA client for the TV? By this I mean, a different app to AllShare on the TV, which could let you configure a few things like, resuming playback from where playback was stopped (AllShare supports this, but only if you use the AllShare server) and also if you could configure the skip distance when using the left and right/up and down arrows. AllShare skips 25 seconds with left and right arrows, but up and down do nothing. Up and down arrow should be used to skip 10 minutes or some configurable amount of time.

resuming playback is available also with Serviio as DLNA server. I use latest version at the moment (1.0.1).
