It Manages to write from the TV to The dongle (Clone TV to USB)

Seems to be the same problem mentioned here

Just need to know how to reformat using the ex-link I do have a usb ttl convertor module but my tv doesn't respond in terminal but not sure if my tv has the ex-line in the VGA port as there is a seperate EX-Link port see image below

Is it possible to still terminal via the vga port or would I need the proper ex-link cable?

you don't need vga if you have separate exlink port. But this probably indicates you don't need ttl converter cable. Need to check schematics, but imho exlink cable from B series wiki article should be ok for you.

Need your help with this EX-Link / Terminal issue.

I got my hands on a generic Nokia CA-42 Cable which I understand is actually just a PL2303 Prolific USB -> Serial Convertor.

I wired up the cable as the Wiki said



CA-42 Nokia <=> 3,5
-----------------------------------
Tx 6 <-> 2 Rx
Rx 7 <-> 1 Tx
GND 8 <-> 3 GND

The cable installs fine on my pc


I used Putty with these settings


I connected the cable to my "Ex-Link" port and I only get garbage like this


Any Advice? I have tried changing the connection settings but nothing changed I got garbage no matter which settings I changed in Putty.

- either bad/no GND or swapped GND with tx.

- bad dirty soldering, short connection inside 3.5 jack.

- your TV doesn`t need usb to ttl conversion (any pl2303 or other), just plain exlink cable (PC com port - service port -like B series) should be used. This type of exlink connection is used in some samsung D and E series UN models, so generally speaking - possible.

So what kind of cable would I need?

TV is working , got it working by eeprom reset.

Can't rehack the TV now thou cos the Clone to USB doesn't work , I read up on here that need to format /mtd rwarea/ but that is only possible with the serial terminal connection.
