Don't know if this info is useful:
Just checked today two UE40H6640 tvs from relatives. One has T-MST14DEUC-2135.4 with OTA / OTN disabled. No option to block in router. But tv says no upgrade avaible when trying to update.
Second UE40H6640 has T-MST14DEUC-2604.1 with OTA / OTN disabled. Blocked the 4 links in router. Will report if this will update
Today I visited the relative with T-MST14DEUC-2135.4. Fw version didn't change. Placed a router with dns filter, but tv was still able to search for update. It says no update found. No error message or so. But it seems not to update

Ok, I managed to get some time to look through the packet captures I managed to do when trying the Firmware update menu option. (Reminder: I have a H6400 running firmware 2602, with the 4 original domains blocked in the DNS via dnsmasq).
The only DNS query my TV does is to lcprd2.samsungcloudsolution.net which is a CNAME to Amazon cloud. Here it connects to one of the servers via HTTPS and exchanges some data (which I can't decode, obviously).
In the mean time I added samsungcloudsolution.net to the list of blocked domains and I will try to run the manual update from the menu again as soon as possible and report back.
I have packet captures with this and with the communication from startup if anybody is interested in them. After light browsing the startup capture I can see queries to cdn.samsungcloudsolution.com, time.samsungcloudsolution.com (where it does something like NTP over HTTP), prov.samsungcloudsolution.com,
www.samsungrm.net, infolink.pavv.co.kr, lcprd2.samsungcloudsolution.net, apps.mhand.net.
Here are the captures for your reference (the TV is 192.168.1.60):
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/x32b2mcce1ylf/samygo
I have not seen any query to the blacklisted domains (yet).

I experienced similar results on my 55H7000 with the latest firmware 2750.3 (OTN now disabled).
I logged the DNS queries in OpenWrt and those 4 original addresses msecnd.net,samsungotn.net,www.samsungotn.net,test.samsungotn.net were never queried, but just to mention a few: cdn.samsungcloudsolution.com, prov.samsungcloudsolution.com, upu.samsungelectronics.com,lcprd1.samsungcloudsolution.net and xxxxxxxxxxxx.cloudfront.net xxxxxxxxxxxx seems to be something random, as it looks like different on every startup.
Manual update check still reports no update, btw it reports that even if I unplug the LAN cable, never seems to give me an error.

Are the blocked queries expected to be logged? On my router, where blocking is done at URL level, they're not shown in "web usage" anymore as soon as URL is admitted as being concerned by access restriction (Tomato fw, Wrt based).
Otherwise and as far as I could observe (on E), I think all cloud* things are related to Smarthub/Widgets.

Regarding the blocked dns queries: they should be visible in the packet capture as requests without a reply. Strange that I don't see lpcrd1 in my requests - maybe the addreses are different for load ballancing purposes. The xxxxx.cloudfront.net names are most likely learned from a previous connection.

You can block https port. OTN uses it. But then some apps and samsung apps store will not work.
