I have the US version of the plasma D8000, firmware version 1013. There is an rs-232 port on the back and I was able to get output in both debug and logic modes. The logic mode was 2-way. Here is the output from logic mode (I have no idea what it means or how I got the Data Download Service menu options, I was just pressing any old keys). By the way, expert mode is active on my display and it enables CAL-DAY and CAL-NIGHT modes in the user menu.

I entered ESC to cancel as you see.


I do get bi-directional comm using UART mode as well but the tv only reacts to specific codes + checksums for changing channel, volume, etc
