Is there a list of dongles that really were tested and work? Besides DLink DWA-140 H/W B1 which is impossible to buy?
I heard that the Hama Duo Wlan USB works directly without any modifications. And it is not expensive. Personally I did not try.

There is one certain Hama stick (rather expensive 20-30 euro) that works with only few models with older firmware. With latest it is not detected, maybe after pid and vid change it will be vissible again.

just received the EW-7718Un (13 euro)
tried without modifying pid / vid on bd-c5500 : result doesn`t work
just modified pid and vid it works on bd-c5500 (have to try wpa2)
Edit
Wpa2 works
This dongle is confirmed working for bd-c5500 after pid/vid hack

Can we blacklist a driver - e.g. "/etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/RT2870STA.dat"??? Btw. where does this path come from?
the file name is in the driver, but the firmware file should be in the extensions pack too (maybe as RT3070STA.dat).
you can play around with

Code: Select all

 mount -o bind
to get it to /etc/Wireless...
