The problem with every community such as SamyGo is that there are only a few "devs" and a lot of users. The dev's job is to do the difficult tasks of finding the exploits and making the patches. This is what they do best and what gives them satisfaction. Writing documentation is:
1. Not fun
2. Difficult to do well - e.g. explain things at a level where everyone can follow.

Also it's very likely the instructions were written as the root procedure was being developed and some small things changed without the documentation being updated.

In my opinion, the documentation needs to be improved by the community. Every user that stumbles on a problem should have the moral obligation to improve the documentation.

I agree that the instructions listed in the thread are difficult to improve. Maybe they should be released as a wiki page where users can improve them. But in that case how do you restrict them to only donors?

And would you as a user improve them if you could?

Thanks. Now your logs are okay. Please rename data_0x5b.zip to data.zip and re-root :)
TeleTobi wrote: Sorry this Tut is more than outdated or because of so many FW or models its not correct.
Yeah it definitely depends on models... Image

- no question about rebooting
Screen log photo or never happened :P You probably didn't scroll enough :P
TeleTobi wrote: Reboot TV and wait 5 minutes.
- What is "Reboot" there is no reboot option is Reboot push Power Off and than Power On?
Little googling would help:
What is reboot?
But just to help you:
...A reboot [...] means the power was physically shut off then turned back on
TeleTobi wrote: Power OFF TV and UNPLUG USB.
-Whats the different between Reboot and Power OFF? Is Power OFF = Reboot? OR Is Reboot = Power OFF?
Once again:
What is reboot?
But just to help you:

TeleTobi wrote: Make a backup of those files, they WILL CHANGE AFTER NEXT BOOT and you WILL NEED THEM LATER!!!

When something goes "wrong" or when you have questions. Good example is when you:
TeleTobi wrote: have a file called: .cm0013 and no file called network_type_info.txt
:P
TeleTobi wrote: Is there an admin account to CHMOD via ftp?
Lol. No fucking idea what you want :P
TeleTobi wrote: - How should the telnet window look like after connection?
That's an easy question. Telnet window after connection should look GOOD :)
TeleTobi wrote: Sorry this is more than disapointing.
Yeah I am also disappointed and amazed but I wouldn't say I am surprised :P
TeleTobi wrote: I get root and everything works but the Tut could be better
One good thing :P

Hey man, how did you get oscam working? What is oscam? How were you able to SSH/FTP over to your TV? What file paths can we choose in FTP/SFTP programs? What login information did you use? Passive or active mode? What ports?

I'm about to just run an 8 hour 65545 port scanner lol because the 2 ports that the picture say are open are refusing connections sooooooooo can we get more information?

I swear I'm gonna post an updated tutorial here (not leaking the method lol I don't wanna get banned) so that all these questions can finally have answers.

What is inside this data_0x5b.zip? What memory address is it relating to? What's its significance? Why does it have to be renamed?

lol you're using Windows XP? or you mean 8 seconds? :P

Code: Select all

Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 7.62 seconds

You scanned all ports? Unless you use a specific program, the default time out / next scan is either 300 ms, 500ms or 1000ms, .3 of a second, .5 of a second or a full second AND OR only ONE connection pinging, NOT multiple pings per 1 connection.

If you had .3 second scan time x 65545 ports = 19,663.5 seconds
If you had .5 second scan time x 65545 ports = 32,772.5 seconds
If you had 1 second scan time x 65545 ports = 65,545 seconds

You did NOT scan ALL ports. You scanned specific ports or a range of ports.

I was just trying to be an unhappy customer with no patience and was greatly exaggerating the situation lol

Realistically I was just going to scan 1 - 50 and then 3k - 4k, that would only be a few minutes of scanning.

Basically: I was trolling and now I just /r/theydidthemath lol

Of course I scanned all ports, else I don't see the point in pasting any result :)
No idea which kind of exotic full scan you're talking about, but mine is enough to get non-standard ports (nmap -p- HOST)

Code: Select all

Nmap scan report for UE40ES6540 (192.168.1.9)
Host is up (0.00034s latency).
Not shown: 65518 closed ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
21/tcp open ftp
23/tcp open telnet
80/tcp open http
139/tcp open netbios-ssn
443/tcp open https
445/tcp open microsoft-ds
1080/tcp open socks
2023/tcp open xinuexpansion3
3697/tcp open nw-license
4023/tcp open unknown
4443/tcp open pharos
6000/tcp open X11
7676/tcp open imqbrokerd
8888/tcp open sun-answerbook
9090/tcp open zeus-admin
55000/tcp open unknown
55001/tcp open unknown

Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 7.84 seconds

LOL I can't believe you replied to that. I told you I was exaggerating what I was going to do lol.

Are you rooted? What are you doing with the root?

What have you already done?

Many things :)
The question is more like: Why did you root your TV if you have no idea of what you can do then? :D

Check [H] Software section, you'll have an overview of available patches...
