I needed to compile toolchain too this days..
Don't know which way do you trying. Just use OpenEmbedded svn.

Anyone could fill-up wiki page (or manual here) how to compile apps from sources with cross-compiler, not just how to set it.
Here isn`t any instruction yet what should we do if we have compiler already.

you like to say there is no openembedded documentation available on the internet?

Sure, it is, but how to compile apps (e.g PVR) from sources with OE? Here aren`t any bb recipes to use bitbake

Could you tell command to build toolchain using OE?

p.s. If i try build mc with command

I found, that handhelds.org was under maintenance until 1.12.2010... Now we have February, it is still not available...
