International Apps & NAS without root?

Hi

I have SamyGo installed on a H Series, international apps, and NAS access.

Yesterday I brought home a UE32J5500AKXXU. I am going to mount it today and try block updates at the router level - hopefully my Zyxel will do this, and i will not need a new router.

Today I read that as there is no way to get root at the moment, SamyGo cannot be installed - is this sonething that is likely to change anytime soon?

Without root access, is it still possibile to install apps from different countries at the same time, and setup NAS access?

Please advise.

So I blocked the update servers from my router before turning on the TV for the first time. Although I live in Ireland, I selected United Kingdom in the setup, as the UK on demand services are much better and I use a DNS service to bypass the geoblocking. Unfortunately smart hub still shows Irish apps. Is there somewhere else I need to select UK?

Also, to confirm the update servers are blocked before turning on the TV I made sure that although entering some of the URLs into my laptops web browser before showed some XML, afterwards they would not load at all. When I tried to install an app it told me Smart Hub was updating - please confirm this is normal and does not mean the firmware is updating? I turned the TV off just in case.

Smart Hub is updating means it is downloading apps. If You blocked cloudfront.net then it can't download apps and thats why You see this message.

If you are not on latest firmware, then sideloading apps is very easy. Just put app.zip in userwidget folder on USB stick and apps will be installed automatically when you connect the USB stick to TV. This was blocked in last firmware release.

Thanks for the response!

I did not block cloudfront.net, I blocked the following, which I found in the link from zoelechat's signature:
msecnd.net
samsungotn.net
www.samsungotn.net
test.samsungotn.net
That is great news that I can side load apps! :) :) :)

Can I just sideload the apps from arris69's SamsungApps List (for free apps), which I used on my older series TVs, or do I need to download different versions for Tizen? If so, can you please link?

Most old apps should work, but unfortunately not all. If you need a specific app, send me a pm, maybe I can help.

Sorry to butt in, but where did you set smarthub region? In the initial setup screen or in a service menu? I'd like to get rid of the stock payed streaming services that are available in my country and never plan on using.

I used this guide:

There is probably one on this forum somewhere also.

Does anyone know if there is a database of the Tizen apps anywhere? I not sure if it is possible for anyone to download them without root but I thought I would ask. This would mean I would be able to use apps specifically made for Tizen OS. Using arris69's app from the Extras forum for the moment, which I think are all older apps?

Is there anyway to watch media from NAS on a J series? I know there is a way for previous series without root, but perhaps on the J series Samsung have woken up and provided some official way? I have a external HDD attached to my router, it's set to samba to work with our older Samsung, but I think the router also supports DLNA... ?
