How to activate PVR onSamsung UN48J5500

I've been able to reach the system menu with the factory remote control (tv off, info-1-8-2-power on) then the advanced menu (hotel mode - tv to usb dump) and was able to turn PVR Support to ON.

Had a similar issue to others that the above change didn't "stick" after powering off and on. I've since changed the Language_Arabic option = EU and Region = KOR (only options I see are USA/KOR). This seems to have caused the PVR=ON to remain on all the time so I think I'm on the right track..

Now when I plug in a USB HDD or a USB Stick, I still cannot record anything.

-Yes, I can select the USB stick and the USB HDD and browse files but no option to format appears.

-I've tried to open the guide and schedule a recording (in order to bring up the format option others seem to have found) but no dice.. I just continue to get a "No USB Connected Please Check Connection" message when I attempt to record...

Have you tried just pressing pause or record while watching tv?

I have. When attempting to record that way a message pops up in the bottom left corner of the screen: "Not Available".

In another post someone had claimed that the PVR function will not work on J versions of the tv - only JU versions will work (ie. JU5500). I don't now if that's true or not but I do see that those who have the "J" version in the european TV (ie UE48J5500) are able to get the PVR working.

I do note that the extended menu is different in the euorpoean vs north american sets so maybe it's firmware related. Can a US set be changed to the European firmware for the same tv?

That's great you now need an high-end J to do what you were able to with the cheapest E/F. It's progress

Some activated pvr on the j series, but never heared of success with the "hotel-mode method", instead they changed the local-set via the extended service menu (Tv on, INFO, FACTORY - Menu"Option", "Local Set" => "EU"). No Ttip option available yet
