Just bought a UN40JU6400

Bought a refurbished UN40JU6400 yesterday on eBay for under $500, free shipping. Downloaded the manual and saw the section on timeshift... and the line about that feature not being available in the USA or Canada. BOOO! HISSS! Don't know if I want to try enabling it or not.

The eBay listing said I may get a UN40JU640D but they are "identical". Hrmmmm, really, what's the difference, if any?

Actually, my main purchase criteria were 4K and it had to be no wider overall than 37" and have at least 3 HDMI ports. The 'smart' stuff is a bonus. It's going to replace my old 37" 1080p Vizio with its really wide bezel.

I'm hoping it will play X.265 HEVC video from USB. If not, I can upgrade my HTPC.

Being refurbished, I suspect it's likely to already have the latest firmware. It should arrive on my doorstep the end of this week or early next week.

First block updates and then worry. No point in thinking about this until you block updates ASAP!!!

I'd have to daisy chain a router off the one provided by my ISP since they don't allow customers to muck about in their boxes. :P

Whatever you like :) It simply has to work (updates NOT work :)). Rest doesn't matter. If you have problems you can always unplug tv from network :)

The main thing for me on the software is whether or not it will play H.265 HEVC video.

Just found this which says it does. :)

'Course it lies about ALL the Tizen TVs supporting HEVC, their $140-ish 24" 720p Smart TV will initially show thumbnails from HEVC videos but try to play them and it will say it can't, then replace the thumbnail with the generic video icon with a NO symbol.

Well it all depends if you will block updates on router since you can't disable OTN Support ASAP on J :( No updates, you can play waht you want. Simple as that :)

It's as I suspected. Being refurbished it's already updated to the latest firmware. :P On the plus side, it' played every video I've thrown at it so far. I should be able to jack in a large hard drive with all my stuff on it.

I'll try my Logitech KR400 on it next. Will these TVs work with a powered hub to connect more USB devices? It has one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0 port.

Well updating to "latest firmware" + 1 won't solve your problem :P No point helping you further if you keep on updating your TV...
