I somehow thought I would be able to reinstall something more convenient as an OS like Kodi... but I am leery about it, as I don't think it would find all the appropriate drivers.

What other kinds of things can I do? (I'm a moderately advanced Linux user)

hmm... At the beginning you could read forum a little... Then i guess you get some ideas
