Color change is different problem...
Do you change anything on Service Menu, like color calibration values?
If your TV is under warranty, please call Samsung technicians about the problem.
If warranty period is done, you can try to calibrate your TV from service menu.
I believe there is such a menu available for the job...

I think you can't found a solution with firmware upgrade at all.
Do yo try to decrease the backlight? It might help...
Also TV has "darker" blacks options. Just try this two and please watch TV from far location not near of it.

Yup TV has internal test patterns. I run them before...
But when you playing with service menu, please take a shot before changing variables. It's really easy to forget which values before!!!

If you want use Samygo stuff on your TV and get it working from TV start, then you need patched firmware with advandced telnet option while patching. But if you don't plan to use it, stay with stock firmware. But you always can try Samygo running it manually from Content library without installing patched one.
