BBC-HD and BBC1 HD on satellite

A few days ago I bought a UE46D6500 with satellite tuner. I live in the Netherlands and have a satellite dish which receives four satellites, among which Astra 2 on 28.2E. This satellite has all UK Freesat channels. I receive most of these quite alright, except for BBC-HD and BBC1-HD on the 10847 transponder. I know this transponder has rather non-standard specs but I presumed Samsung would be aware of that and take this into account in the transponder list in their firmware. Anyway, the channels do not show up in an automatic search and a manual search with selection of a new transponder also does not work. I must say it does not help that in defining a new transponder there is no option for setting the FEC-value. The Dutch Samsung service desk seems unable or unwilling to help. They just refer to the manual, which of course does not help very much with this particular problem.
My guess is that the transponder database in the channel list scm-file is out of date and I would like to be able to update it. I tried the various channel editors but unfortunately with none of them it is possible to edit the transponder database.
Anyone (in the UK perhaps) familiar with this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I was recently trying to find some georgian channels on 42?E which also were not in the transponder list.
I manually added them to my C6700 and was able to find 4 of 5.
The 5th missing one I was only able to find with my external receiver (EDISION Argus Pingulux) which is much more suitable for satellite reception. Samsung-Tuners are ok, but they are not excellent.
If you find the specs of your desired channels in this list (
http://en.kingofsat.net/pos-28.2E.php ) you should be able to enter the transponders manually.

Thanks for your reply. I am aware of the details for this transponder and I did enter them manually. However, I don't know about the C-series, but the D-series does not let you enter a value for FEC and exactly that is very important for this particular transponder. The FEC recently changed to a value which is different from the ones used for all other transponders on the satellite. I have other satellite receivers on which I can receive these channels, but an important reason for me to buy the Samsung TV was because it includes DVBS2. And now that I have it I also want to use it of course!

Uuh, yer right. They switched to FEC 8/9 and I just checked on my C6700, you cannot enter FEC value there either.
Did not try to scan because I'm not on 28.2?E right now, but I fear it would have failed too.
We must find a way to edit the transponder lists.
I located this file on my TV:
/mtd_rocommon/Transponder/UpdateTransponderDataBase.xml
Unfortunately you cannot write to a ReadOnly folder
Also there is a remark in the header of this file that "
k.rozeslaniec@samsung.com" might be in charge for this file.
Maybe he can help, worth a try?

Thanks again for your suggestions. I tried to send an email to Mr Rozeslaniec but unfortunately it bounced, user unknown. However, since my TV is a more recent one, there might be a different name in the xml-file in my TV. I would like to check, but being a newcomer in the Samsung world I have no idea yet how to get into the software at the level which you describe: /mtd_rocommon/Transponder/UpdateTransponderDataBase.xml. How do I get there? The only thing I have done sofar is unpack the scm-file but there is no xml-file in there.

You must get the SamyGO-Extension running on your set, then you can access it via Telnet and FTP, mount CIFS and NFS shares etc.
Unfortunately these are not yet available for D-Series TVs

It is all becoming a bit complicated I think. Thanks anyway!

I could'nt let go on this...

Turned my dish to 28.2?E today and did some testing:
Added new transponder -> edited it (red key) -> entered transponder data -> did manual scan -> found BBC HD channels
So if this works on C-series it should work on D-series too.

That is very strange. I think I do exactly what you do and do not find any channels. However, I must say that I don't know what you mean by editing with the red key. I don't have a red key. When I click on "new transponder" I immediately get the fill-in screen where I enter the data 10847, 23000, vertical. In the search which then follows nothing is found. It can't be the dish or the cable because I also have a home cinema PC on the same dish which does receive those channels. Does the red key offer additional editing options?

Problem solved!
I did try something which I probably should have done in the first place. I switched the antenna cables from my HTPC and the Samsung TV and bingo, the missing channels suddenly appeared! I have no explanation. The dish is a Technisat Multytenne Twin and in principle there should be no difference between the two antenna cables. I have had that dish for about three years now and I have never noticed any difference in the past with all other equipment I have had. It is very strange that I had no problem with all other English channels, just with this one transponder. Anyway, I am glad the problem is over. I really apologise for the troubles I have caused you and I am very grateful for everything you did to help me.
