Help with C650 USB

Hi unfortunately I've managed to brick the usb mounting on my parent's C650. They're real impressed 
I was following this tutorial http://wiki.samygo.tv/index.php5/How_to ... _series_TV. All was going fine until the step "Put Modified usb_hotplug.sh to TV". Unfortunately I hadn't checked the permissions on the file and after I put the file to the TV the USB no longer worked. The firmware version is 1005. Will I be able to get the USB function back with a RS232 TTL cable or is there another option? Or am I up for a new TV for my folks? Any help greatly appreciated thanks
