Is there a way to "fool" the update?

Hi everybody,
does anybody know if there is any way to make "think" to the BD Player that you are installing, from USB, a newer version of a firmware, presenting instead an older version?
In other words, how does the BD recognise a FW if is newer or older?
Thank you for any answer may help me to the downgrade process.
I own the actual and an older version of the firmware in ZIP format and I can decrypt it, but I cannot find what the BD may look for to recognize if is newer or older (or the same)
