Transferring BluRay Bookmarks Across Drives

Hi, I have a Samsung BD-F6500 BluRay player that I use to watch MP4 lectures from a 3 TB Seagate Expansion drive plugged into the player's USB socket.
There are thousands of MP4 lectures and the BluRay remembers where I am on every file and resumes from that position when I return to it.
Recently the drive showed signs of failing so I bought an identical replacement and cloned the data with identical folder structures.
I hoped the player would still recognise its bookmarks but it starts every file from the beginning.
Is there a way to fool the player into thinking that the new drive is the old drive and applying all my existing bookmarks?
I tried swopping the Seagate .ico files in the drives' root directory but no dice.
I don't understand how the player identifies external drives.
Many thanks if you can help!
