Something like Menu->Support->Software Update, here you can see "Current Version: " at the right.
Then, if you want *full* name/version, check service menu main page

The option "Software Update" is disabled on my TV

Maybe because you've diasbled OTN support? So check service menu main page, all infos are there

Yes, I've disabled OTN support. And yes, in the service menu I was able to look up the firmware version: it's 1116. Thanks again!
Recently, I had to reset SmartHub, because my TV kept rebooting while playing back TV recordings. Now playing recordings is fine, but root is lost, of course (I expected this). I'd like to re-root the TV, and the question is, which is the preferred rooting method with my firmware version - the "old" public method or the new donor's method? IMHO, both methods should work, but what are the pros and cons of either method?

Both methods work, but if you dont plan to use Skype, better use the oldest public one
