HI,

im considering buying av 5.1 recevier. Plan is to connect TV optical out to recevier, since this model has only 2 hdmi (no arc support ?).

Is this model capable of pass-trough dolby digital 5.1 to my receiver via toslink, considering that cable channel is in dolby, or usb movie (plugged to TV) is in dolby.

On digital output for sound i have three options PCM, Dolby Digital and DTS Neo 2:5. Some choices are "greyed out" and are not selectable if content is not dts or dolby.

Av receiver have HDMI ARC input, but tv does not have ARC.

Do i need toslink cable connected to tv, which will pass-trough audio (dolby or simulated dts 2ch to 5ch) to receiver or hdmi is capable of doing such thing???

hlp.

Optical will output surround audio from internal tuner(s) or built-in media player only. But no passthrough from any HDMI source, stereo only.

Ok, is my tv model capable of hdmi arc ?
in order to work hdmi arc you must have arc port on both sides, tv and av recevier. In this case only receiver has it ?
I think samsung from F6 series and on arc is supported HDMI 3 (arc).
in e-manual i found these
ARC
ARC enables digital sound to be output using just an HDMI cable. However, ARC is only available with
AV receivers that support ARC.
To use ARC, enable it from the Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) device menu Receiver.

If you have no HDMI labeled ARC, I guess no :)

It seems from time to time one user is able/lucky to do so, but mostly no.
