It's just a protection in case you switch RX/TX, or use a 5v FTDI cable (instead of 3.3v) by mistake.
Not necessary during normal operation, but it's worth to have them, just in case ;)

Re: BD-E Debug Console

I think that the 'official' way is FaNet, and only FaNet : - I found portions of code in FaNet to read/write config e2prom and to make calibration; So, FaNet is probably used during production. - The key combination table that I found in exeDSP does not include anything related to the setup menu (al...

FaNet is the easiest way.
Alternate method with debug console is also working.

Re: PVR BD-DT7800 - problem with UK region

I tired to used cable USB->TTL. What kind of cable are you using ? FaNet is known to work with FTDI cables; Prolific cables does not work on my unit because the driver is not included in the kernel. First of all, you have to check your USB<>TTL<>USB cable between 2 terminals to make sure that your ...

Re: Console code for BD D series

There is a serial port on most units
It is possible to connect it to a terminal (putty, hyperterminal, ...)
Then :
- 20102011 is used to enable the keyboard entry
- 2008999 is used to run the Top Debug Menu

Re: NEW MEMBER AND A NEW BD-E6100 TO HACK

I'm taking this thread in the middle; here are my thinkings about it : - I really think that the signals you found on your mobo (pads marked as RX and TX on the first photo) are the console signals :) - I assume that you have also connected GND ;) - Please confirm that you have checked that the loop...
