Finally solved this issue. Should anyone have the same problem in the future whereby the auto panel settings wont update and they have half screen 3d, I checked the panel serial number (taking the tv apart) and got the corresponding panel code (40a1uf4e for my panel), entered this code and hit facto...

Did you ever fix the half screen problem?

Tried the factory reset in service menu, didnt make any difference.

I've also cycled through all the 40" A1/P1 UF*E models but again, didnt fix the fault?

Any other suggestions?
