Re: First D-series updates
Folks with C series have rooted their tv's using both custom made apps and hotel mode in the service menu. I tried the custom app route but permissions have been changed so the app could not write to where it was supposed to. Have not tried the hotel mode yet. Description of techniques is in the wik...

Re: First D-series updates
That software works fine on my D8000, I can turn the TV on/off, mute, set volume etc. At lease it will tell you if you've got the right transmit pin. Also, I just use UART mode with eventghost. I too have no idea what LOGIC mode is.

Re: First D-series updates
To see if you are transmitting:
1. download the eventghost software http://www.eventghost.org/downloads/
2. run the software and in the configuration add the Samsung TV plugin
3. see if it will turn on/off, volume up/down etc.

ex-link RS-232 port on PNxxD8000
I have successfully used the ex-link port to remote control my display via the RS-232 port (set in UART mode). You can use the software available here, http://www.eventghost.org/forum/viewtop ... f=9&t=2059 with the Samsung TV plug-in.

Re: First D-series updates
I have the US version of the plasma D8000, firmware version 1013. There is an rs-232 port on the back and I was able to get output in both debug and logic modes. The logic mode was 2-way. Here is the output from logic mode (I have no idea what it means or how I got the Data Download Service menu opt...

Re: Are we sure firmware is still Linux based?
Definitely is linux based, you can pull up the open source disclosures, including an email address to send for more info, in one of the general sub-menus. for rs-232 access just use the ext-link connection. What does it mean to clone to usb? thanks

Re: Hullo :)
Greetings from the U.S. just purchased a PN51D8000 and was fooling around in the service menu trying to figure out how to enable a special night/day calibration mode. Anyway I noticed the RS-232 interface and after googling around found this project. Don't know if I want to do any firmware hacking b...
