IMHO the problem relies on protocol: blocking "by url" or by keyword with https protocol will never work because strings are encrypted and router cannot inspect inside the https envelope.
Just make this test: try to block youtube site and let us know ...

Re: J Rooting.
3 pages in a day about updates blocking !!! In 2 months using this technique no one update passed to my sammy. Yeah because many people tried blocking by string/url and thought it works so I tested it myself. I didn't get ANY updates for almost a YEAR:P So yeah we are and will be talking about upda...

Re: J Rooting.
3 pages in a day about updates blocking !!! Anyway, forget about blocking with firewall/string rules; it won't work with https requests. Excluded web proxy, the only way is using (cheating) dns. To make it short, if you are on static ip, an external dns service (such as OpenDns) will do the job. If ...

Looks like your router can't handle dnsmasq with stock firmware.darkyuuki wrote:My router is:
Brand: Sagemcom
Model: Fast5350GV
You should switch to OpenWrt or DD-WRT (check first hw compatibility or you will brick your router !)
good luck.

You should look for dnsmask, maybe in DNS (or Local Network) section.
If you report brand/model of your modem/router maybe we can help you more.

Re: About fw updates blocking ... again
Hi, just to let you know about about my "final" solution to block sammy updates ... Considering that: - iptables (firewall rules) are not suitable because they work on ip address basis (not host basis, as we need) - OpenDns leaves a little time frame of vulnerability - host file is not wri...

About fw updates blocking ... again
Hi, my little contribution about the well known subject ? Many routers are not flexible/powerful enough to set firewall rules (the only reliable way to block updates) and other features such as ?url filtering? or ?parental control? are no good for https urls. In these cases, the only solution to go ...
