How did you get the boostrap to work for Debian Jessie on F? Samsung TV does not have the "ar" command

What can I do now that I have telnet access to my TV?
I somehow thought I would be able to reinstall something more convenient as an OS like Kodi... but I am leery about it, as I don't think it would find all the appropriate drivers.
What other kinds of things can I do? (I'm a moderately advanced Linux user)
