I got this working on the D550

Compiled the necessary modules from scratch

I got CIFS and virtual USB working

ext3/ext4 will build, but I can't get jbd to load without freaking out the TV

xfs doesn't want to build

Wonder if ssh and telnet are possible

What else can I do?

Finally found the courage to upgrade to 1006.

I can still root with the input unlock code and then CTRL+C.

I went with a 3.5mm-to-female-DB9 cable and a Male-DB9-serial-to-USB cable. No messing with bare wires. Let me know how things go. Well, we never went over what constituted "running" on my TV since a fair amount of modules don't work and the TV crashes.
