Re: ES Series and RuCommunicator

I've been trying to disable CE dimming on my UN60ES6500

I can bring up the service menu with 182 Mute. If I got to Advanced and press 0000, I get 2 new options - Picture_2d and Picture 3d - but they're greyed out. I understand that the CE Dimming option is under Picture_2d
I have sent FACTORY and 3SPEED using an IRToy and WinLirc - that causes the service menu to go away and return, but the Picture_2d and Picture_3d options are still greyed out. Any ideas?

@Lweniel
Did you try the same procedure (FACTORY and 3SPEED using an IRToy and WinLirc) with other TV before with success? I would try to unlock the local area option in SM with that method (using IR) as showed by pdca and when I'm done I'll refer in this topic.

OK guys, so this hack can be used to unlock ALL service menu locked options, or is it just for the local area option?? How does it exactly work? A step by step guide would be good for so many people I think. Sorry noob here, with a PS43E450 trying to change the model to E550 so I can have the Cinema Smooth option due to correct 24p reproduction.

Remote Control emulator: send custom IR codes

Actually it unlocks all the locked SM items you could unlock by sending FACTORY and 3SPEED. I was just interested into Local Area and it worked for it. I can say that it didn't unlock the Expert Mode SM section. Maybe for it you need to send twice 3SPEED instead of FACTORY+3SPEED (as it was said in this thread), but I didn't check it.

Process for Unlocking local area is
1. enter SM
2. send FACTORY (via wave + 2 leds transmitter)
3. send 3SPEED (via wave + 2 leds transmitter)
4. select correct area
5. perform Factory Reset

Of course, except for hacking, the wave methods allows to send RC keys or combination of them (e.g. SM) in an alternative way (with smartphone for example)

Thank you!
So, after I send FACTORY & 3SPEED all greyed out options will be available?
Will post results after I fix the adaptor and IF my phone is able to send the codes.
Well done, anyway, I think that's the first fix for locked menu options for the E series (at least for the non-networked ones).
Also, may I suggest posting the phones you used and didn't work, so we can built a litle database about that matter...

Once again, not all the greyed out menu were unlocked at least by sending FACTORY + 3SPEED as I did. For example the Expert menu didn't unlock (maybe different combination of key is needed... not expert on this).
Topic splitted. Conversation, related to the Remote control emulator from now is available here.

Re: [SOLVED] ES Series: unlock and change local area

Post by televeyes »

I recently witnessed successful unlocking of the Locale and Info Link options in the Service Menu of a French Samsung TV model UE32ES6710SXZF (i.e. an E-Series ES6710), using a Samsung Galaxy S4 mobile phone's IR Blaster (infra-red LED) to send the relevant factory remote control key codes. N.B. The ruSamsungTVCommunicator Windows application was tried previously, and while it connected to the TV and could be used to send remote control key sequences, it appears that this model of TV, which had the latest firmware version (as at 27 December 2013) does not (or no longer) accept Factory and 3Speed codes via the network remote. Options were then considered for sending the required remote control button codes via infrared: (a) buying a Harmony 555 programmable remote control; (b) building an infra-red remote control using a pair of IR LEDs; (c) using an available Samsung Galaxy S4, which contains a programmable IR LED.

The third option proved cheapest and easiest. Here is the full sequence of steps that worked successfully:
  1. Installed the Samsung IR Universal Remote app from Google Play Store on the Galaxy S4 (https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ol.samsung). Note that this is not a Sumsung-authored app, it just has Samsung in the name.
  2. Tested the app could control the TV. Launched the app. Clicked on ?MY PRONTO IR CODES REMOTE 1 GUI?. Hit the phone Menu button and selected Choose Remote, then ?Samsung TV1?. While pointing the phone at the TV, hit numbers or other buttons on the virtual remote keypad (on the app GUI) to verify that the app was able to control the TV. (N.B. For a different model of TV, it's possible this step won't work, if the TV happens to use different codes for some remote buttons. It may be worth trying the 'Samsung TV2' remote in the app Menu, or proceeding onto the next step regardless).
  3. Created a file called Samsung_Factory_TV to make a custom virtual remote control, that assigned the codes for Factory and 3Speed to the num0 and num1 keys. The file was based on the example file provided by the app author, Sharp_LC_TV, so it?s not intended that any other codes sent by this custom remote will actually work on a Samsung TV. (Thanks to viewtopic.php?f=20&t=3104&p=27277#p27006 and http://www.avsforum.com/t/1389562/samsu ... ussion/570 for the pronto codes). The file needed is copied below.
  4. Copied this file to /storage/emulated/0/remotes on the Samsung Galaxy S4. (To get the file on the phone, you could email it to the phone as an attachment, then use My Files to move it from Downloads into the correct place). Closed and relaunched the app.
  5. Put the TV into Service Menu mode, by powering off the TV, then hitting INFO MENU MUTE POWER on the TV remote control.
  6. On the app on the phone, hit the phone Menu button and tapped Choose Remote, this time selected ?Samsung Factory TV?. Pointed the phone at the TV and hit 0 then 1 on the virtual remote keypad (on the app GUI). The service menu disappeared then reappears. Put the phone down. Pick up the TV remote control.
  7. Navigated using Up/Down arrows to Option, then Enter, then Down to Locale Set (which was no longer greyed out/disabled) then Enter, then used Left/Right arrows to change locale from EU_FRANCE to EU_UK. Clicked Return to navigate back up to the top menu.
  8. Navigated using Down arrow to Control, then hit Enter, then Down to Sub Option, then hit Enter, then Down to Info Link Country, then Enter, then used Left/Right to change from None to UK. Clicked Return to navigate back up to the top menu.
  9. Powered off the TV. Powered on the TV. Clicked Menu to bring up the standard user menu (not the service menu) and navigated to and selected Factory Reset. The TV powered off and powered on automatically.
  10. On powering up, the TV now had a Freesat option in the Tuner menu. After reconnecting it to the network, after a pause it automatically uninstalled some non-UK apps and automatically installed some UK apps. I can confirm the Freesat tuner option worked correctly, as did apps for BBC iPlayer, ITV On Demand and 4oD, once they were installed.

That's your view not my view. Anyhow how do you mean 'spam the complete forum'? I posted the full solution on this thread here, and short links to it on other threads about unlocking the locale option. That way anyone reading one of the threads about unlocking the locale option (of which there are many) will find this solution. This will save anyone in my position countless hours trying other fruitless methods. I didn't find this particular solution anywhere else.

P.S. After having just spent a couple of hours of my time writing up my results to contribute to this otherwise excellent forum full of helpful posters, I don't find it very encouraging to be called 'retarded'! If I thought your abuse was remotely representative of Samygo users then I would of course be delighted to immediately delete my forum post.

P.P.S. If by 'spam the forum' you are annoyed that you received notification of my posts about the same topic to a number of different forum threads, then I'm sorry but it's important to realise that many people needing help find Samygo forum threads by searching Google and when they do they find plenty of duplication of topics. Also, people who posted a question on one thread aren't necessarily going to be reading all the others about the same topic. So if answers are only posted on one thread then all these people searching and reading individual threads are not likely to find what they need. That's why it makes perfect sense to cross-post a link to a solution on all relevant threads. Sorry if that results in you feeling you are getting spammed - it's nothing personal!

everything is ok, thanks for sharing info. Just in another similar topics there was no need to repost same answer many times. It is enough just to post link to your original full message.

Thanks and Happy New Year :-)
