Country change problem

I'm having trouble getting Netflix through my BD8500F Blu-ray. Seems I can only get Netflix by installing the Android app, which I can't access as I live in Australia. I have Getflix VPN and am having no success trying to change countries. I've used the Mute-Ret-Vol+-Ch+-Mute method - the TV returns to the broadcast when I press Ch+.
I then tried the>>289<< method; As soon as I pressed FF ?Not available? popped up, the screen went black and the red light on the tv went out. (I tried it by accepting the conditions and then by not accepting).
Can some kind genius pleased offer a solution?
