One more reason is that you may have to donate if you want to access restricted rooting methods for latest firmwares.

I think mostly the post says that if you donate there is no 100% guarantee that you will be given access.
But most people do receive it because these guys seem to be nice . Basically it gives you access to an insider forum where most of the discussion and status on the "new state of things is".

It depends on how much, from 10$ there is 100% guarantee to get access, being 100% satisfied is another thing
