don't think so, then name resolution on windows is like lottery...
if someone can't sleep because directory with ip is created instead of hostname then he can modify the script as described

when i add a falback to IP and option for user to decide does it have a chance? basic setting should be IP but user can use WINS or DNS if they set it.
lottery depends on your network, i have DNS and WINS server running all time.

if people open the init script for editing then it's not really extra work to change the one line too for them
lottery depends on your network
not on my network also not on yours but on 1000 others :-)
i have DNS and WINS server running all time.
but this is not the standard situaton in windows home networks...

i personally not got the point why its important/different to have hostname as directory and not the ip.
it's more important that it works for a maximum of users.

If DEUS is ready to add this option to GUI, i think it is better for all users = more customization = more user friendly SamyGO.
Why doesn`t IP name is more userfriendly than hostname? For you/me and DEUC is doesn`t matter, but for 1000 others the hostname wins against IP. User don`t need to know IP... and you know this, because scripts are created to make user free from this information. But hostname is what usually users know.

for me it's no problem if it's implemented to enable/disable hostname based mount in web-interface,
i just told that in core script i don't change it then i expect more troubles then usage.

ps: It is no coincidence that the nmblookup is in the widget

already on this, will be part of webif script settings, sure no problem. I thought its there because of samba ;-)
But Topic of this thread should be changed to something like "Name instead of IP for SAMBA shares"

Wouldn't it be better to actually TRY instead of just expecting?

Does that mean that the entire project is meant purely as "we provide you the tools and you are supposed to do everything yourself, dear user"?

feel free to try it and report, then we will see how many others get success too...

fusesmb use it, so you just to need to enable it.

but dear spoza you can also call the samygo emergency line (0800-samygo-im-too-lazy-to-check-how-things-are-working) then samygo engineer will come to you for free and configure your tv and computer as you wish.

I surely would like to, the point is that I'm not a Linux expert (as the vast majority of other users), so it's quite difficult.

You don't need to be sarcastic...
I'm just trying to understand the point and the goal of this entire project.
If it's meant as "from Linux experts for Linux experts", then fine, I can accept it... but then the efforts like "make SamyGO more user friendly (e.g. via web interface)" do not quite fit in this approach...
If it's meant to "get more from the TV even for non-Linux-experts", then I don't quite understand some of your statements, because they say something like "we only give you the tools, the rest is entirely up to you", which does not fit in that approach (but fits much better in the other one).

It's know that fuse doesn't work on Mstars for some reason, so I can't use anything what uses fuse.
And since I'm not a Linux expert, I can't investigate by myself what's the problem.
