I powered off the Nvidia Shield and using Filezilla I downloaded the directory /mtd_unirw/rwcommon/widgets/user to my computer and then uploaded it to /dtv/usb/sda1/smb/192.168.1.1/Media/Video/TV Shows/24/s09. In case it would help I also copied about 10 files (not directories) in one of the widgets folders in /user from my PC to /dtv/usb/sda1/smb/192.168.1.1/Media/Video/TV Shows/24/s09.

All the transfers worked fine, but still the TV crashes trying to play the video file in /dtv/usb/sda1/smb/192.168.1.1/Media/Video/TV Shows/24/s09.

Yes, I use a password, I will try without username and password. I am not sure about samba version, I use whatever DD-WRT comes with by default, I can check.

I think it is possible my samba init.d file might have become corrupt or changed some how because I copied it to and from my PC so much, and because I am using the same file I used when I first rooted with the Skype method about 2 years ago.

If you have samba working, could you please upload your init.d file (not just copy and paste) and I could try using that? There may just be some small difference in my file causing the issue.

I can also set a samba server up on Ubuntu for testing and see if that makes any difference.

I think my files may be corrupt, can someone with Samba working on H please upload their files: /mtd_rwarea/smb_userdata and /mnt/etc/init.d/04_04_samba.init.

Please upload the actual files, rather that just copying and pasting, in case there is some issue with permissions etc of my files.

Looks it's all okay :) Just data.zip is bad :) You should rename data_0x36.zip to data.zip and re-root (new file uploaded).

Here's Samba script, there's no default smb_userdata and it's not mandatory, you can delete it and enter infos only on top of Samba script.

PS: I'm not called backup :D
