I think "skypecam compatibility check" is performed in SsTvBase::FlagMoIPSupport(); this method calls TDsSystem::GetSuppportOption(0xf, ...). Checking is done against model string (from factory settings);
if modelstring=~/^(UC9000|UC6|PC6|LC6|LC5)/, skype fuctionality will be disabled.
So, it will not work for models: UC6900 UC9000 LC630 LC650 LC670 UC6000 UC6400 UC6500 UC6600 UC6700 UC6800 UC6200 PC6500 UC6510 UC6530 UC6540 UC6620 UC6710 UC6730 UC6740 UC6820 UC5800 LC580 LC640 PC6900 PC6970 PC680 PC687.
It should work for models: UC7000 UC8000 UC7700 UC8700 PC7000 PC8000 PC7700.
It _may_ work for LC750 (interesting) and possibly for UC5800 & PC580 (but are those lesser models shipped with T-VALDEUC firmware ?).
That's just one check; possibly there are other restrictions elsewhere.
Workaround against this check will not be easy (changing model string in factory menu being not recommended, for obvious reasons). It's probably performed on boot time, and patching exeDSP binary in /mtd_exe partition is AFAIK not an option in C-Series due to authld.
SKYPE ON C650
Re: SKYPE ON C650
No, I don't think there is an individual setting in service menu just for Skype.ganumor wrote:Do you think there could be anything in the service menu's that would enable Skype in a similar way that the PVR can be enabled?
I'm 90% sure Skype gets enabled or disbled according to "model code" (or "model string") setting in service menu.
Sadly, messing with that particular setting is generally NOT RECOMMENDED, for obvious reasons.
Re: SKYPE ON C650
There is a chance (not big one) that Skype may "just work" on C750, because Samsung programmers apparently forgot to disable it for LC7* models. With a little luck, TV should download skype widget/skyhost.img from Samsung server, all by itself (I don't know.. there are various authorisation steps involved in the process).jandy123 wrote: I have a rooted c750 tv set. the other widget files ? If we do, I could give it a shot and see what happens on the tv.
If you have access to original samsung-skypecam, please give it a shot, by all means. If not, ordering 150$ skypecam (in hope it may work with C750 some day) will be extremely unwise, IMO. This cam is not supported on PCs; you may end with a nice looking 150$ paperweight.
Re: SKYPE ON C650
Good question; I don't know that. I guess it should start without camera connected (from Sasmung Skype manual: "If you haven't connected a webcam yet, you will see the message "We can't detect your webcam..."). If you are unable to get to this point without skypecam connected, that means: something else skype-related is missing (or is not enabled properly) in C750.jandy123 wrote:sbav1: Unfortunately I do not have access to the skype webcam. I was however thinking that I could at least check if the widget starts, without the camera. But, from what I understand from you, is the other way around, i.e., first camera has to be connected and then, maybe the download of the skype widget starts. Is it right ?
Well, for sure, you'd be in uncharted watersI just wanted to see if the widget starts, without the camera on my tv. Idea was: put all required files in the right places on the tv (if authuld allows it) and just start the widget and see what it does. Can I at least try this ?
