in truth: yes, but not public.

but you can also search on internet for precompiled busybox that works on tv.

ps: this version is without password protection, so don't forget to set one. and don't ask in this thread for support for it.

/mtd_rwarea/passwd isn't read only.
did you call mc as mc or as mc.sh (as described in first post)?
edit: and you did it from a ssh session and not from telnet.
