I'm looking to getting an extra TV and I really like the mods on my rooted H-series (sleep-mode, unencrypted recordings, channel info, screenshot, ir injection). I'd like to have the same amount of control over the new tv as well, but I suppose it's no longer doable on new series. So, I'd like to ask the community if I should look at a specific vendor/brand/model that is more open than Samsung at this point, or is it a lost cause?

Is it realistic that we will get a new root series in the next months or is the samygo project on the crossroads with this tizen TVs?

I'd be getting a dumb tv, except this time I'm looking forward to using the wireless display feature...

Things became really slow here, do not expect any quick updates. The worst thing is here is no ETA for updates. I advice you to take most recent rootable model (check extras), or buy something what fits your needs hoping that one day we will have something sweet for your model. Or not. Peace

Thanks for the update... I'll look at what the market has in terms of dumb TVs and I'll pair it with an Odroid N2 that I have as a media player and hope to add all the features I want. The H series can do the TV recording and monitoring.
Sorry to hear things are lingering... But you never know when a breakthrough happens...

Could always do NVIDIA Shield too... with any kind of TV.

I went with a Philips Android TV because it had built-in chromecast support. With new android kernel exploits, it shouldn't be impossible to root in the (near?) future...

Why just not buy Mi Box S/Shield TV ?
You can get much more from them, even without root!

I wanted ambilight and less smarter models were not sold in my region.
