Could I workaround a broken screen and get some use?

Hello
Someone's selling a UE40H5500 cheap with a broken screen, literally nothing can be seen. Could I do something with this such as the PVR function and other stuff.
If I could do it all via ssh/telnet that would be perfect, but I'm afraid that would't be possible before it's rooted/customized so some display would be necessary right?
Any ideas if someone did something like this already?
