There are two different user interfaces but the widgets are the same. Only the icons are either shown as sniplets or as cards. Depends on the TV model. Furthermore it is possible to restrict the availability to specific manufactorers and models. This happened when the Youtube widget has been released. It came earlier for some hardware.

manivs wrote:Hi Guyz,

I recently bought a Series 7 - 40" LED-LCD (UA40B7000) and I live in Chennai,India.

As far as Indian version of this TV, by default Internet@TV is not supported. But by tweaking the parameters in Service Menu to one of the Infolink countries (ie. Malaysia,Vietnam, Indonesia etc.,) I am able to install Youtube, Accuweather & USA Today widgets and by changing the Infolink server type to development or developing from operating, I am able to install Facebook, but Picasa fails to install.

I've also tried UK firmware v.3000, able to install & browse the Yahoo Widgets of European & American version. Had to revert back to Indian Firmware v.2004, since USB ports were detected by the TV.

Have anybody come across this or any solution available ? or Is it possible to import the Yahoo Widgets into the Indian Firmware from the UK Firmware ?
You can install widgets manually but then, you need another TV as source. In /mtd_down/widgets, there is one subdirectory structure for each widget. If you copy widget bundles inside and enter them in the widgets.db database file (ODBC: sqlite), they're availlable. But mind, that different versions of the yahoo widget engine are used on Samsung TVs. Some have the snipplets in a dock, some show cards on the screen. Some TVs show accuweather, some yahoo weather. On some TVs, an (international) eBay-widget is availlable, for others not. Depends on the series (6/7/8) in combination with the type (LCD/ULed/Plasma).

Facebook and eBay are model-dependant, not country-dependant. This was reported by a yahoo speaker in the connectedtv forums. There are two different versions of the yahoo widget system. One has more features but requires a better CPU.

Is there any way to force TV think that you are in UK (for widgets only)?
Yahoo widgets are not available for Russia, but if I change the country in Settings/PnP, then they are.

Or, what are the disadvantages of choosing another country in these settings?

What is the difference between Yahoo widgets and other widgets? For Russia, UE46B8000 only Picasa, Youtube and Accuweather are available. Their interfaces is totally different from Yahoo widgets.

(if I would like to develop new widget for Russia, then which manual should I follow? If I develop it in accordance with Yahoo manual, then, I think, it will not work for Russia)
