Forget colors of wires. You have to disassemble VGA connector and solder your needed contacts only.
Same for ca-42, but here you need only 3 wires, so you can find it easily using some schematic available on google...

Look at this picture, use multimeter to identify wires of contact numbers and you get required color...
Picture of disassembled ca-42...

...and the article about how to build...

I found DKU-5 cable and made it work. Found some problems with windows 7, but succeeded with windows XP (drivers from year 2003 that comes with the cable). The latest PL2303 drivers did not work for me. To make cable beautiful used also the attached components and left only pins 4,7,11. :)

this is serial to DB9, you need serial to DB15 (VGA) and with ttl converter. I don`t know if ttl converter exists here... check specification...

Thanks. After a bit more research on forum and wiki I decided to go with PL2303 USB adapter. Putting adapter connectors on corresponfing VGA cable pins should work. This way I avoid soldering.

Too bad cheap adapters are only awailable from China and it takes about a month for goods to arrive from there :( It means I will have to wait that long to reset hack.

Hi,
I want to buy this adapter (I'll use it with linux).
As you can see in this image, there is a "3.3V" pin. Do I have to provide more power supply or I just have to connect the cables in the right pins to make it work?

Thanks!

You don't needed to supply power to TV. You are gonna use just GND,TXD and RXD pins. Not 3.3 and 5v pins.

Thanks. I haven't bought the one in the photo, as it is being auctioned, but another similar one that is for sale.
I'm going to receive it in about 5-10 days. When I'll receive it, I'll try it and eventually post something...

if you need, you can use +3.3 and 5v (with GND) as power source for your needs or just leave those two untouched.
