Questions about Samba/SMB possibilities

I'm thinking about buying a UE46D6500 or UE40D7000 and I'm wondering what the SAMBA client and server functionalities mentioned in the wiki ( http://wiki.samygo.tv/index.php5/Rootin ... cpu_models ) would allow me to implement one (or both) of the following scenarios:

Scenario 1, Samba client:
I assume this means I can browse Samba shares in the Network and directly play media files (including external subtitles) from them.

Scenario 2, Samba server:
Does the Samba server allow access to connected USB hard drives? If so, does that also work when the TV is in stand-by, so I can use the TV as a simple NAS?

Thanks for any advise.

Scenario 1. - Yes, absolutelly.
Scenario 2. - No. you can`t use TV as the NAS. Just only if in future we get some patch to switch LCD off and let all other hardware running. But i doubt it makes sense to have such NAS :)

As the D6 series has poor 3D feature and just half frame for 3D HD (check our topic), i would recommend to buy D7000 (compared to D6500).

Actually I can do that on my plasma.
There is an Energy Saving item in the Tools menu where I can switch the picture completely off (the TV stops buzzing, so the panel is really off)... and if I mute the sound beforehand... ;-)
That's actually close to the mode in which the scheduled recordings are made when the TV is off - it turns itself on on the scheduled time, but with no sound and the display switched off.

I assume the LCDs do not have the energy saving mode, right?
